Job Description
The Practice Sterile Processing Technician performs a variety of instrumentation decontamination, sterilization, packaging, inventory, and distribution tasks according to established system-wide sterile processing policies and procedures.
1. Retrieves used trays, instruments and equipment from various surgical and clinical areas.
2. References manufacturer's instructions for use to ensure proper sterilization of various types of instrumentation.
3. Dissembles and decontaminates reusable instruments and equipment.
4. Operates washers, sterilizers, ultrasonic machines, steam and ethylene oxide sterilizers, heat sealers, and additional equipment during sterilization procedures.
5. Wears protective apparel when performing decontamination procedures.
6. Inspects and ensures processed instrumentation and patient care equipment is sterile and functionalaccording to quality control protocols. Communicates issues to supervisor and/or bio-medical engineer.
7. Assembles and packages supplies according to specifications.
Adheres to instrument count sheets for surgical sets and case carts.
Covers and rotates trays and sets per sterile storage guidelines.
8. Dispenses sterile supplies to assigned surgical and clinical locations. Collaborates with perioperative staff regarding related instrument needs.
9. Performs required duties tomaintain a contaminant-free work environment.
10. Assists in ordering, stocking and maintaining department inventory levels.
11. Documents and maintains records of daily activities according to system-wide sterile processing policies and procedures.
12. Adheres to AORN, AAMI and Joint Commission standards (e.g. biological, chemical and mechanical monitoring) in the performance of duties.
13. Participates in department quality control programs and in-service training, as required.
14. Performs related duties as required.
High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
Sterile processing certification (CRCST or CSPD), required.
Must complete minimum annual continuing education credits required by NY State AND additional continuing education credits required to maintain certification status.
Prior experience processing surgical instrumentation, preferred.
Ability to lift/carry 25 pounds, required. Ability to stand, bend, lift and/or reach for extended periods of time, required.
Ability to communicate effectively and follow oral and/or written instructions, required.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
